01 Beginning Mah Jongg

Mah Jongg is a tile-based game developed in the 19th century in China. It is commonly played by four players with a set of 152 tiles (American version) based on Chinese characters and symbols. This entry level class will introduce participants to this fascinating game of skill, strategy, and luck. (Repeat class)
Fee: $15 National Mah Jongg League, Inc. 88th Year card (unless students have their own card).
02 Classic Comedy Films
with Peter Livshin

In this course, participants review and discuss six films, identifying traits that make them classics. The movies are His Girl Friday; One,Two,Three; Those Amazing Men in Their Flying Machines; Dr Strangelove; Blazing Saddles and Cat Ballou. Peter is an educator who has facilitated many CAL classic movie courses.
03 Old Dillon: Memories in the Rear View Mirror

Robin and Brad Bremner
A crucial spot in Colorado’s development, Dillon is worth examining. This course will offer a brief history of Dillon, looking at the people, the mountain setting, the ski industry, and recreation in the area, all of which changed life in Colorado. Participants will learn why there is a Lake Dillon and what led to the relocation of the town. Robin is an educator who grew up in the community that is now under the lake and will share how life was there. Her father was the mayor of New Dillon in the 1960s and president of the Dillon Development Committee as the old town moved to a new location.
06 Easy Hikes Close to HEB

Fall is the perfect season to go outside and enjoy Colorado. Following an introductory classroom session, avid HEB hikers will serve as guides on four easy hikes within an hour of HEB including Piney Creek Trail (Centennial), Paint Mines Interpretive Center (Calhan) and Staunton State Park (Jeffco). Participants are responsible for their own entry fees.
07 Vietnam Helicopter to Continental 737

The class will follow Bob from flight school training with helicopters through his tour in Vietnam. This will include the role helicopters played in Vietnam: resupply, troop insertions, medivacs, and more. He will answer the question: Did he get shot down or crash or both? After the war Bob flew helicopters for construction and the forest service fighting fires and spent 22 years flying for Continental Airlines as a pilot on the Boeing 737.
09 Trailblazing Women on US Quarters

This course includes the stories of ten American women featured on the '24/'25 US Mint's American Women on US Quarters series. Multiple presenters will share the inspirational accomplishments of ten Trailblazers including Dr. Mary Edwards Walker (Civil War surgeon), Stacey Park Milbern (activist for people with disabilities), and Celia Cruz (Latin artist).
10 Sports Forum
with Peter Livshin

Participants will discuss current events in the baseball and football world.
Peter Livshin is an educator who has presented several sports courses for CAL. He’s been a baseball and football fan since he was five years old so he has lots of stories to share.
11 The Fat Man, the Little Boy and the Fall of Japan
with Harvey Solomon

This course is about the making and use of the Atomic Bomb to end WWII. It covers the US Manhattan Project, bomb projects in other nations, and the fall of Japan. Harvey is a scientist and a scholar with a 75-year interest in history. Harvey is a scientist and historian who has taught many CAL courses.
